Notes for Katharine Maria Hallifax
Buried in grave 64 - 65 (or is it B4 - B5) of Borough Cemetery, Tunbridge Wells - seen by Granny Ferrand and her mother, Granny Halifax (I just remember her) together in 1st half of 20th cent... Subsequent note: this must have been after 1932 as Georgiana did not die until then.
The burial records show the celebrant was Walter Plant, the entry no was 19421, the registration no was 13340 and the grave no was 65 in Class A, section 6.
In the 1881 census she (almost certainly she) was a visitor staying whith a clerical family in Liverpool, Rev Charles James hardman and his wife Frances Emma and three young children. She was 38 and born in Hasler, Hants. There were two other visitors, a curate and a merchant, both aged 36 so it sounds as if an up-market boarding house was being operated here.

In the 1861 census she was aged 18 and with her mother and siblings at Portsea, Hants. This time she was said to be born at Alverstoke, Hants and as it was her mother who was head of the family and thus making the entries, I’ll believe this entry instead of the Hasler or Gosport from other censuses.

In 1871, she was with her mother and sisters in Portsea.
In 1901 she was with her sister Pauline in Tonbridge and reported that she was born in Gosport, Hants.
In 1911 she was living separately with two servants in Tunbridge Wells, aged 68 and born in Haslar, Hants.
In the London Gazette of 20 Mar 1931, a notice was placed asking for claimants, etc on her estate and giving her death date of 5 Feb 1931.
