Notes for Alice Parker
Which Henry Parker was her father? The family is:
(i) Henry Parker, 1483-1556, first Parker Lord Morley, had 1 wife.
(ii) His son, Sir Henry Parker, KB, (dvp 1552); had 2 wives.
(iii) His son, Sir Henry Parker, KB, second Parker Lord Morley (c.1531-1557), had 1 wife.
The candidates for Alice's father are (ii) and (iii). The evidences are:
(a) CP agrees with everyone for who the Parkers were and the names of their wives, but, of course, does not mention Alice.
(b) Clayton in his history of the Barrington family says Thos' first wife as "Alice the daughter of Lord Morley", presumably (iii).
(c) DNB in its article on (iii) clearly says Alice is (iii)'s daughter and includes her marriage to Thos Barrington.
(d) The 1612 Barrington visitation makes her the dau. of "Henry Parker Knt., Lord Morley first wife"; this sounds like (iii) but (iii) did not have a second wife, so it might really be (ii).
(d) The 1558 Parker visitation has her absolutely as the dau of (ii). Note that this was taken within a two years of the deaths of (i) and (iii), as well fairly soon after the death of Alice herself.
While the majority is that Alice was the daughter of (iii), the 1558 visitation evidence points strongly to (ii) as her father. More investigation is needed. Meanwhile I'll leave her with (iii).
