Notes for Thomas Battell
In the 1558 Essex visitation, p. 227, there is a pedigree that shows that Thomas Battell and Elizabeth Enfield had two daughters, Alice who married John Barrington and Catherine who married John Joscelin. This is in contrast to the dispute recorded in the Barrington Family History in which the second daughter was Margaret married to John de Boys. Reported, even, he referred to "his two sisters". So where does this Catherine come from?
There are other differences between the Barrington and Joscelin pedigrees for the Battell and Enfield families. Again I have no idea which, if any, is right. I have noted the differences against the various people concerned.
This account is repeated in F A Crisp’s Visitation of England and Wales in 1893-1906, vol 26 (vol 4 of the Notes), p. 46.
