Notes for James Powys
Martin P-L writes:

left a will (1667  PRO  13860) which, as a Merchant of London, he had made in 1665 before sailing abroad, in case he died - which he did, two years later.  He left everything to his brother, Henley, who was also his executor.  Some extracts from the will:-
I, James Powys of London Merchant being in good health of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory (Praysed be God therefore) being bound upon a voyage and employment in the service of the Royall Company to Guinney in Affrica consideringe with myselfe the casualties of the seas and mortality doe make and declare my last will and testament .........
And as touching such goods chattells effects and estate whatsoever and wheresoever to me belonging at the tyme of my decease after my debts and funeralls shalbe first paid and satisfied I doe wholly give devise and bequeath the same unto my honoured and welbeloved brother Thomas Powys Esquire for and in recompence of such moneys by him paid for me and kindnes by him bestowed upon me.

Obviously he had not married.  He also appears as a witness in two cases (Town Depositions 1651, 749/T; and 1659, 839/A)
