Notes for Rev Dr Henry Powys
Martin P-L writes:
1666 born
1684 matriculated at Merton College, Oxon.
1692 Bachelor's degree at All Souls
1697 Doctor's degree "
He became a Fellow of All Souls and, through his mother, was of founder's kin (v. Stemmatae Chichelianae - according to the Diaries.)
TFPL, 12 Jan 2002: I cannot find the entry in Stemmata Chicheleana for Mary Cotes. The only Mary son of John Cotes in there, Vol I, p. 137, tables 253 & 254, married a Wriothesley Digby of Mereden, Warcs who was "F.A.S." [Fellow of All Souls?] 1718, which sounds a bit late for Mary to be also mother of Henry Powys who was born in 1666. In any case "our" Mary Cotes died in 1668.
TFPL, Jan 2002: He appears as obtaining the marriage licence for his brother Thomas and Liz Meadows in 1698; he was then called a Rev Dr of St Giles in the Fields.
