The notice of his birth in the Berkshire Chronicle on Sat 15 Sept 1838:
“Sept 9, at Hardwick House, Oxfordshire, the lady of H P Powys esq., of a son.”

In 1871 he and other Powys relatives were staying or living with his brother Francis Arthur Powys who was rector of Winton West. George was a Lieut RN on HMS Impregnable.

In 1881 (Canadian Census) he was with his brother William, aka Cunliffe, at Kingsclear, York, New brunswick, a Naval Officer, aged 43 and born in England.
From the London Gazette:
30 Jun 1876: “Admiralty, 21th June, 1876.
In accordance with the provisions of Her Majesty's Order in Council of the 22nd February, 1870—
Commander George Powys has been placed on the Retired List of his rank from the 22nd instant.”
