General George Michell (c.1760-1848) |
||
I found George Michell's bookplates in three small leather bound books
of a military nature, small enough perhaps to be carried around with
him. They were probably left to my forbears as he had a close
relationship with his cousin Louisa Michell(c.1766-1848), mother of Henry
Philip Powys (1791-1859). He certainly witnessed a few Powys deeds
and was said to assist with the financing of Henry Philip's son Philip
Lybbe.
The arms are per chevron gules and sable, a chevron argent between three swans of the third, a crescent for difference. The difference is because he was descended from a cadet branch. The bookplate must date from the mid 1830s when he was first made a general.
