Inexactitudes within the College of Arms' Pedigree

The following list gives the main issues. But the pedigrees above include a wider range of annotations, in particular giving the unidentified heiresses who brought in many additional quarterings. I would therefore recommend that those pedigrees are enlarged and closely examined.

This table is primarily about genealogy. In the next section I examine whether genealogy was the sole means of transmitting heraldry.

These were jumbled up and ended up with the Blomvyle heiress and arms omitted.

16 George Plantagenet His paternal grandmother Anne Mortimer, dau of Roger Mortimer earl of March, was identified only as Anne, leading to the omission of some 79 quarterings.
19 Geffrey de Neville His father, Gilbert de Neville was omitted.
24 John FitzRobert He was not the father of Euphemia, wife of Randulf de Neville, but her brother and had issue so that Euphemia was not an heir, much as he showered the Clavering family properties on her and her husband.
25 Thomas Montacute His mother, Maud Fraunceys, was the heir of her father as her brother was born before their parents married.

Rohan and Brittany This genealogy was a confusion between two descendants of the Porhoets, the Zouches were descended from a cadet line but the senior line did indeed inherit the Rohan and Brittany arms.
38 Ralph de Gwadyr His son Ralph de Gael was omitted together with his sons, resulting that Amicia / Itta was incorrectly identified as an heiress.
45 John Wake His wife was incorrectly named as Blanche, but was Joan de Fiennes whose mother was Blanche de Brienne.
His mother was omitted and was the heiress Hawise dau to Robert II de Quency and brought in 6 quarterings.
48 Richard de Beauchamp A non-existent generation was added between his Beauhamp 4th and his 5th gt-grandfathers.
53 Robert de Harcourt He had sons with issue so his dau Alice was no heir and did not convey his quarterig of arms.
54 Richard FizJohn The father of the heir Maud was John FitzGeffery; Richard was Maud’s brother and dsp.
55 Ralph VII de Toni His wife was Mary; his mother was Alice de Bohun.

Gilbert de Clare His mother was also an heir, Maud, dau of John de Lacy earl of Loncoln and brought in some 12 quarterings.
64 Gilbert de Lacy No brother named John can be found for Gilbert’s wife Isobel Bigod.
