Shortly before this exchange in the Times, Philip Powys assaulted a tenant of
his and was taken to court for damages, and had to pay £10 for his bad
behaviour, as related in the Reading Mercury of the 15th November 1862:
This merely confirms that he was in an irascible state and was finding the world rather difficult to cope with. |
